The Hawks have arrested an alleged gold at OR Tambo International Airport after he was found in possession of 23 pieces of gold worth an estimated R11 million.

The 33-year was arrested on Saturday after he traveled from Zimbabwe to South Africa.
Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase says the suspect was arrested by the Hawks’ serious organised crime unit. The traveller was requested to scan his luggage at the international arrivals Customs section of the South African Revenue Service. Twenty-three pieces of gold were allegedly found on his luggage.

SARS s customs officials discovered 23 pieces of gold in the traveller s luggage after they asked him to scan it at OR Tambo International.
The Hawks have nabbed a 33-year old alleged smuggler who attempted to make his way into South Africa with R11 million worth of gold.
Hawks regional spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase said the 33 year old suspect was expected to appear on court on Monday 10 May.
“A 33-year-old suspect is expected to appear at Kempton Park Regional Court, facing charges of contravening the Customs Act 91 of 1964 and Precious Metals Act 37 of 2005 respectively,” Nkwalase said.
