for you. a rare malayan tapir, a species which is related to both the horse and the rhinoceros, has been born at chester zoo in england. the female calf, named nessa, weighed 9kg about 20lb and has a rare coat of both spots and stripes. the zoo says the arrival is highly significant as only 2,500 tapirs are said to remain across south east asia. the species numbers have halved in the last a0 years. let me show you this picture of a very unusal sight in the sky a rare cloud formation crashing across the horizon like ocean surf above the crest of the bighorn mountains in northern wyoming and southern montana in the united states. these clouds, known as kelvin helmholtz instability, form when a faster stream of air moves above rising air below. you can reach me on twitter, i m @richpreston. from all of us on the team here

Bureau Veritas awards air lubrication system approval to GILLS PTE LTD | Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide

Bureau Veritas awards air lubrication system approval to GILLS PTE LTD Bureau Veritas (BV), a world leader in testing, inspection, and certification (TIC), has been working with GILLS PTE LTD in Singapore to assess the performance of its innovative air lubrication system to improve ship efficiency and decrease fuel burn by reducing the drag of an underwater hull. GILLS, which stands for gas injected liquid lubrication systems, deploys NACA profiles to create self-generating micro-bubbles for ‘turbulent modulation’ which has a ‘hull-tightening’ effect (see below), reducing drag and energy requirements. The self-generating nature of micro-bubble clouds with no requirement for air-compression and additional energy requirements is one of the features of the GILLS system.

GILLS PTE wins BV air lubrication system approval

GILLS PTE wins BV air lubrication system approval May 10, 2021, by Fatima Bahtić Singapore-based company GILLS PTE has secured Approval in Principle (AiP) for its GILLS Air Lubrication System from the classification society Bureau Veritas. The company has developed a gas-injected liquid lubrication system (GILLS) to drive energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption in the shipping industry. As disclosed, the fuel savings achieved by the system reach approximately 10 percent. Courtesy of GILLS PTE “ The GILLS systems have been installed on an existing vessel for a number of years now and the vessel owners are confident that the fuel savings are approximately 10%,”
