Insp. Kelly Skinner said at the scene that two officers responded to the call and located a man with a knife inside.
She said the police engaged with the man, and one of the officers discharged his weapon. The man was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.
As per protocol, the officers were taken to the hospital to be checked out with unknown injuries.
Skinner said she couldn’t say more as the province’s Special Investigations Unit has taken over the case.
The SIU investigates when police are involved with civilians where there is alleged serious injury, death, or sexual assault.
