But since the early ’70s, an operation in Saskatchewan has stood out. The corporate vision statement of “Leadership in sustainable, innovative agriculture” of Pound-Maker Feedlot at Lanigan, Sask., illustrates the company’s unique approach with the synergies of Canada’s first livestock feeding operation and ethanol plant. One of the original motives of a group of 50 local farmers was as a grain marketing venue with a 2,500-head lot. The ethanol plant was added in the early ’90s and the feedlot expanded.
