Michigan Committee Advances Voter ID Requirement Bills
The Senate Elections Committee has advanced the Republican-sponsored election bill that would overhaul the state’s election laws and it would increase voter identification requirements for voting in person or by mail.
June 03, 2021 • (TNS) Fairhope might have a quaint downtown, but there are no skyscrapers or major turnpikes that would suggest Alabama’s fastest-growing city is the typical “metropolitan.”
Muscle Shoals might be the largest city in Colbert County and has a famed music studio, but it’s far from being confused with Birmingham or Huntsville.
But a recent classification of the two cities as a “metropolitan” under the American Rescue Plan Act has officials in both cities asking questions. The cities are among 21 in Alabama labeled a “metropolitan” under the federal relief act.

Alabama law says a court appointed attorney could only charge a maximum fee of $4,000. The city approved more than 30 times that amount.

On Friday, May 7, 2021, a Madison County jury found Huntsville Police Officer William Darby guilty of murder.

Adina Peyton is calling for transparency from the city of Huntsville regarding the death of her son, Brad Pugh, who was shot by police in Five Point on Nov. 16, 2020.

Adina Peyton has spent the past five months searching for information about what happened on the night her son Brad Pugh was shot 16 times and killed by Huntsville police.
Peyton said the city has refused to answer her questions, release body camera video or even let her family watch the full, unedited footage of what happened that night outside a barbecue restaurant in Five Points.

The market is located outside the city s corporate limits, but regulations are allowed because the business is within Fairhope s planning jurisdiction. But for Mike McKenzie, the phrase represents a modern-day frustration that affects his business. The owner of a mom-and-pop produce market south of Fairhope, McKenzie cannot vote in city elections even though he is assessed permit fees and must abide by zoning ordinances issued out of Fairhope City Hall. Not long ago, a city employee told him to remove a sign because it was in violation of a city ordinance.
