In a state that boasts many “firsts” for women in elected office, it might be shocking to learn that 41% of New Hampshire select boards have zero women.
Matters report from the New Hampshire Women’s Foundation details a significant gender gap in elected representation for women at the local level. In 2020, the organization surveyed all 221 towns and found that 37% of the 1,642 people serving on school and select boards are women and just 29% of towns have achieved gender parity or majority women. Data regarding city councils and school boards is forthcoming.

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - âTwas the week before Christmas, a miracle transpired.
Last week, the Salvation Army of Manatee County was in desperate need of toy donations. Thanks to some ABC7â²s viewers that all changed.
âThe support of the community has been tremendous,â said Kelly French, Director of Community Relations for the Salvation Army of Manatee County. â Weâre overflowed with joy and happiness.â
ABC7 spoke to French one week ago, and she told us 40 kids, also known as Angels, who are part of their Angel Tree program were waiting to be adopted. This means they were waiting for a donor to provide them with personalized gifts. Unfortunately, that left many boxes empty.
