Last week we ended the week with the s p down 3 . The nasdaq was the leader at 3. 5 for the week. Its worth pointing out the nasdaq since the election up only 4. 8. So much of the gain coming last week. It was playing catchup having lagged behind some of the other indices since the election. The one really up most of all since the election is the russell 2000. As you can see this morning, were pretty much flat in the premarket. The dow eking out a slight gain on the futures market there, the s p and the nasdaq slightly negative. The big market mover this morning is oil. Oil prices up some 5 . If we have a look just shy of that now, 53. 94 comes off a week of gains. They were up 1. 3 as a whole last week. We have to check in on the Global Markets. We did notch a 12th record close for the dow. Wilfred is not impressed unless we get a 500 point rally, but either way this is the longest string of gains i am impressed. I am impressed. Lets look at what your money is doing this morning. Starting with u. S. Equity futures. We have got red today. We have the dow jones indicated to open lower by 35 points. The s p poised to open 6 points lower. The nasdaq down 15 points. This after stocks took a pause yesterday given the record rally we have seen in recent days. 9 of 11 s p sectors yesterday finished lower. Led down by financials. Caterpillar was the biggest negative after federal agents searched their offices, something i reported on throughout the day yesterday. Im wilfred frost. Very good morning to you have me as well. Lets get straight to the Global Market action. Yesterday we saw the Third Straight day of declines for the dow. Just barely. Exactly right. You completed my sentence before i could. Down just a fraction. Nasdaq closed positive, right . Nasdaq slightly positive for its fourth positive day in a row, albeit similarly four p slight positive days. 7 out of 1 1 sectors were negative. The most notable decliner was financials. The bank stocks down over 1 . A poor day for them. A large part of that was what was happening in the yield curve. Tenyear treasury note. The yield curve slipped across the board. It wasnt that it just flattened. The tenyear note hit a low of 2. 46. At 2. 48 at the moment. That was a low not seen since about the last three, four weeks. Japan, remember, was closed on monday.
