Local U.P. authors to read this summer

If you are looking for a good local book to read this year, a local bookstore owner has a list of recommended reads.
“There are a number of local authors whose books we sell at the store,” said Kelli Townsend, one of the two owners of Island Books & Crafts. “We have a section devoted to local authors and other Michigan related books. They cover a number of genres: fiction, mystery, history, young adult, tweens, travel guides, poetry, etc.”
The Firekeeper s Daughter by Angeline Boulley. This 496-page book was released in March and according to Townsend, the fastest-selling book that they have had since opening the bookstore 10 years ago. According to an article by Nour Rahal of the Detroit Free Press, it tells the story of an 18-year-old biracial, unenrolled tribal member named Daunis Fontaine who tries to stay true to her Anishinaabe heritage while working undercover in an FBI investigation of a new drug that is ha
