A wildfire that ignited south of Lake Tahoe made an explosive push eastward this week after spreading into Nevada, officials say. The Tamarack Fire, which was started by lightning, had charred an estimated 50,129 acres as of Thursday with 4% containment, according to the U.S Forest Service. On Tuesday night it crossed the state line and burned into Douglas County in Nevada, officials say. Blowing embers from flames ignited a new spot fire Thursday afternoon that jumped the highway north of Topaz Lake on the California-Nevada line, prompting a new evacuation order at Topaz Lake Estates and neighboring areas.
