Video game retailer GameStop (NYSE:GME) is shaking up its executive offices. The company just hired a chief technology officer (CTO) with recent experience from Amazon Web Services (AWS). Two additional executive appointments will bolster GameStop s expertise in customer care and shipping services.

Matt Francis will become GameStop s CTO on Feb. 15, having led the DocumentDB database team at AWS over the last year. His CV also includes seven years of e-commerce operations at clothing retailer Zulily and a cloud-oriented data center setup for real estate start-up FlyHomes. His job description at GameStop involves managing the company s technology and e-commerce assets and operations.

The rally in GameStop Corp. shares showed further signs of losing momentum on Wednesday as the stock limped into the close even after news of a trio of executive hires, including the appointment of a chief technology officer.
The stock closed just 2.7 per cent higher Wednesday at US$92.41, after earlier rising as much as 26 per cent. A sell off at the start of the week has wiped out US$16 billion in market value from the company.
While the video-game retailer struggled in Wednesdayâs session, other parts of the market showed that Reddit-fueled retail traders were still driving double-digit gains for smaller companies, such as Tyme Technologies and Sellas Life Sciences.

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - GameStop Corp. (GME) said that it has appointed Matt Francis to the newly-created role of Chief Technology Officer, effective on February 15, 2021.
Most recently, Francis was an Engineering Leader at Amazon Web Services. He previously held senior-level technology roles at companies such as QVC and Zulily. At GameStop, Francis will be responsible for overseeing e-commerce and technology functions.
Kelli Durkin is appointed as Senior Vice President of Customer Care. Durkin, who previously served as Chewy s Vice President of Customer Service, has a start date of March 1, 2021. In her new role, Durkin will oversee all customer service and engagement initiatives at GameStop.
