Alive in My Heart group works to break silent stigma on death of infant

Elizabeth Yassenoff s first two pregnancies ended in grief. Her first in 2015 ended in a miscarriage after just eight weeks. For her second, she gave birth to son Jacob on July 18, 2016, but he died a day later. Finding out that the baby wasn’t going to survive really just left like a loss and like my body had failed me, Yassenoff said. “The experience of losing Jacob taught me what true grief is. Women still face enormous stigma when they lose a baby   whether by miscarriage, stillbirth or infancy death and they re often not encouraged to talk about their experience. This can lead to isolation, even from their partners and close family, and means that women end up trapped in their own personal grief.
