A HARBOURSIDE café is unable to reopen after a blaze which destroyed the room next door caused smoke damage to the walls. The owner of Custom House Café planned to reopen next week but has had to abandon his plans after a fire broke out in the laundry room next door, which has caused smoke damage to the café walls. The café, based on Custom House Quay near to the corner of East Street, is on the ground floor of a four-floor building which has three apartments upstairs. One of the tenants heard the fire alarm and called 999 when he saw the flames in the laundry room.
