Governments and health chiefs around the world are waking up to a new crisis we’re going to be hearing a lot about: Antimicrobial Drug Resistance, AMR for short.

Blood plasma from people recovering from COVID-19 could help prevent severe illness in older patients newly infected with the virus, a small new Argentinian study finds.
The findings give new hope to the notion that so-called convalescent plasma might have a role to play in treating COVID-19. Earlier studies had been disappointing, showing the treatment had little effect on people with severe, advanced cases of COVID-19.
TORONTO A new study has found that administering convalescent plasma with a high concentration of antibodies against COVID-19 early on in mildly ill older adults may help reduced the progression of the disease. The study, conducted by Argentina-based non-profit Fundación Infant, found that convalescent plasma therapy could significantly reduce the need for oxygen support among COVID-19 patients over 65 years old if administered within 72 hours after the onset of symptoms. Lead investigator of the study, Dr. Fernando Polack, said in a press release the findings suggest a new approach for the treatment of older COVID-19 patients and could help address an important gap in the therapies currently available.

Convalescent plasma given to patients in the early stages of Covid-19 can help prevent them becoming severely ill, a study has found.
A paper in the New England Journal of Medicine has shown that giving plasma, a component of blood rich in Covid-19 antibodies taken from patients who have recovered from the disease, can reduce the need for oxygen support among older patients.
