educate. protest this morning outside of a d.c. school after friday s firings of more than 200 teachers. hello and welcome to news4 at 4:00. i m pat lawson muse. and i m jim handly. district students fighting back today. dozens of students skipped class today to protest school dhauts have led to many, many teacher layoffs. the protests began at mckinley high, one of the schools hit hard by the pink slips. kimberly suiters has more. reporter: the civil rights anthem better known to the teachers and parents in the crowd, who insisted this protest was the student s idea. we organized this because we believe that the chancellor was unfair. reporter: brittany timmons is the school president. plans to wear black and plans to march. i see the teachers walking out of the door. we don t think it s fair. we re uneased about it. we want our counselors back. and we want to we re going to protest until we get them back. give me an, f. f. bring it back. reporter:
fire. it was a rough day, a rough start to the day for a man in lanham, maryland. he d just awakened when a minivan smashed through his bedroom wall. michael flynn is here with that story. michael? reporter: pat, it appears all a driving lesson that went horribly wrong. the man inside the apartment had just woken up for a doctor s appointment when a minivan crashed through a wall and landed just a few feet from him. i say it was like an explosion when itame through the window. reporter: robert schreiber had just gotten out of bed this morning a minivan came crashing into his bedroom. the front of it landed right on top of his bed where he d been sleeping only about ten minutes earlier. when it happened he was sitting in this chair, now surrounded by debris. when he came through, it was a big bang. and hit the floor and when i looked up there was a vehicle sitting there. reporter: a photo of the minivan sticking out of his lanham apartment. police say the driver di
a shocker for chicago today. the first city eliminated from the contingent for the 2016 olympics. in copenhagen, another city celebrates its chance to emerge on to the world stage. hello, everybody, on a busy day in the news, i m jim handly. i m pat lawson muse. more on that story, but first this afternoon, breaking news involving an undercover investigation into the d.c. taxi cab industry. 39 people were indicted today on bribery charges. most of them were taxi cab drivers. this is one of the accused, 51-year-old ebarak suyumi. all were making payments to illegally secure licensees. he s been cooperating with undercover investigators. three of the defendants are charged now with trying to get licensees for multivehicle cab companies. dozens of others are charged with trying to get individual licensees. if convicted, all face up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines. our other top story, the international olympic committee made history by choosing rio to host th
