SAN DIEGO
A man who slipped out of handcuffs, grabbed an officer’s gun and fired it in the underground parking garage at San Diego police headquarters last summer pleaded guilty Thursday in a deal that will bring a 10-year prison sentence.
Keith Bergman, 26, pleaded guilty in San Diego Superior Court to assault with a semi-automatic gun on a police officer and to being a felon in possession of a firearm, Deputy District Attorney Will Hopkins said. Bergman also admitted personal use of a gun. He is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 22.
Authorities said Bergman fired a round before officers shot him in his side. No officers were hurt.
