Strike: Lagos-JUSUN wrong for previously breaking ranks with national body – Lawyers

Some legal practitioners, on Thursday, described as wrong, the decision of the Lagos chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) to break ranks with the national body.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that judiciary staff nationwide, on April 6, embarked on an indefinite strike, demanding that state governments grant financial freedom to their respective judiciary.
But the Lagos chapter partially called off the strike.
The state chapter of JUSUN, chaired by Mr Kehinde Shobowale, had in an April 22 memo, ordered a partial reopening of the courts from Wednesdays to Thursdays because the state had so far attained 75 per cent financial autonomy.

Many staff of the Magistrates’ Court, Ikeja in Lagos on Friday vacated the court premises for fear of being attacked by unionists.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the staff of the court took to their heels after they heard that officials of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) were approaching the court to seal it up.
JUSUN had vowed to re-seal all courts in Lagos State following information that the state chapter had partially resumed operation
NAN reports that the staff of the courts were later seen hanging around the court premises following the development.

The officials of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) on Friday drove away staff members of Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the staff members were asked by JUSUN to suspend court activities and vacate the premises.
Some workers of the court were still seen hanging around the court premises while others left for their homes.

The staff of Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos were on Friday chased out of the premises by officials of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the staff were asked by JUSUN unionists to suspend court activities and vacate the premises.
NAN reports that some staff of the court were seen hanging around the court premises while others left for their homes.
According to a staff who spoke on condition of anonymity, “the courts were initially opened on Thursday but the Magistrates did not show up; today again in the morning we resumed activities but we were told to halt all activities and vacate the premises and wait for further instructions.
