Two people were charged with trespassing while others rallied holding signs Tuesday outside Waiehu land at the center of an ownership dispute between Native Hawaiians and nonprofit Maui Economic Opportunity Inc.
Kama said the Jan. 27 meeting agenda, which will be posted Friday, will include final reading of bills that were introduced and passed on first reading last year: Bill 97, CD1 on residential zoning, Bill 160, CD1 on the Kula Agricultural Park, Bill 206 on conditional permits and Bill 207 on funding from the American Rescue Plan Act.
Although Maui County’s real estate market is facing uncharted territory after the frenzied homebuying of the pandemic, Realtors Association of Maui said signs point to slightly softer prices heading into the new year. Low inventory, though, will keep home prices relatively high, and potential buyers shouldn’t expect costs to plummet to pre-pandemic numbers.
Maui County will assist the state Department of Health in distributing COVID-19 home self-test kits from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the War Memorial Stadium parking lot in Wailuku. Test kits are also being distributed to nonprofit partners and to remote communities in Hana, Molokai and Lanai, according to a news release today. Six test kits per vehicle with each kit holding one test will be distributed during the drive-through distribution.
Experienced artists Cynthia Monteleone of Nāpili and Zoe Leroy of Kahana are donating time and material to create public murals on walls outside homes off Lahainaluna Road. “The joy is spreading contagiously to others,” Monteleone said. “That’s why I’m doing this. It’s not for me and it’s definite not for the money it’s for the community.”
