Keep Iowa Beautiful taking applications for annual clean up event

Keep Iowa Beautiful executive director Kevin Techau says the organization is signing up groups for the annual “Pick-Up Iowa” in late March. “For over 20 years Keep America Beautiful has done the Great America Pick-Up. We participated in Pick-Up Iowa, where we try to reach out to all corners of Iowa for trash and litter pickup in the spring,” Techau says. He says Keep Iowa Beautiful will help coordinate the volunteers for the project.

Image of Local Landmark Earns Public Favorite Prize In Keep Iowa Beautiful Photo Contest

Just three of the more than 875 photos submitted in a contest that celebrated the 20 th Anniversary of the founding of Keep Iowa Beautiful were awarded Best of Show status. But the image of an iconic western Iowa historical landmark was named the Public Favorite following a two-week social media vote taken at the end of January. The winner of that prize is Dave Austin of Ankeny who captured a beautiful image of Manning’s Trinity Church under the stars. People travel from all around the Midwest and beyond to see the church constructed in 1913 which made a nationally televised move to its home in the Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park in 2006. That photo along with the three Best of Show winning images can be found below.
