Many rows of law enforcement vehicles, including dozens from the ODNR, lined the large church parking lot as officers and other officials from across Ohio attended.

Scott of Hillsboro, according to Highland County Coroner M.D. Jeff Beery. Beery said he has not made a ruling on the cause of Scott’s death, but that it appears to have been by drowning. Ohio Department of Natural Resources Officer Jason Lagore, 38, of Clarksville, also died at the scene of the accident when he entered the water in an attempt to find Scott.

The teen fell into the lake at Rocky Fork State Park while trying to rescue her 13-year-old brother from the frozen water, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

(Shutterstock) HILLSBORO, OH The deaths of a 16-year-old girl who saved her brother s life and a park ranger who tried to save her are the latest painful reminders to stay off the ice during the final weeks of winter. The girl, later identified as Kearia R. Scott of Hillsboro, Ohio, according to the Times-Gazette newspaper, was with her 13-year-old brother on the ice at Rocky Fork Lake on Tuesday night when the two fell in. Kearia saved the life of her younger brother, emergency personnel said, and died while doing so.
