RIDE Check Results in Less Than a Dozen Charges | 99 1 FM CKXS

March 15, 2021   Chatham-Kent police are counting up the numbers from another Saturday evening of RIDE checkpoints across the municipality. Officers stopped a total of 175 vehicles at their three locations in Chatham, Blenheim, and Ridgetown. They conducted two roadside tests, and did not lay one impaired driving charge. They did lay three charges under the Liquor License Act, and six from the Highway Traffic Act. CK Police want to remind everyone these checkpoints will be up year round in an effort to keep all road users safe. SHARE

  CK Police are asking for the public’s help following a break and enter in Wallaceburg about 6 am Thursday morning. Police tell us the front window of SaveMax on James Street was smashed by an unknown suspect or suspects. At this point it’s not known what, if anything was stolen. Authorities said a woman was attacked by a man as she was trying to get into her vehicle. Police said the man stole items from the woman and then fled in a vehicle with three others.Authorities said police officers spotted the suspect vehicle and tried to pull over the driver, but the driver would not stop.

  A Chatham-Kent Police officer has been found guilty of several charges under the Police Service Act. Constable Darcy Lunn pleaded guilty to one count of neglect of duty and three counts of discreditable conduct. The offences, which occurred while Constable Lunn was off-duty, date back to 2009, but authorities say they weren’t reported to police until 2019. Following an OPP investigation, criminal charges were laid. In May, 2020, Lunn pleaded guilty to charges of assault and uttering threats, which resulted in a suspended sentence and three years’ probation. The CK Police Service Act investigation began shortly after, resulting in the latest charges.
