a few hours here at 9 a.m. this morning s hearing in family court comes after a similar motion was twice denied in criminal court mirkarimi is barred from seeing his wife or son right now. this hearing is about only his son. his wife does support mirkarimi s request to see their son. mirkarimi was arrested on january 13 charged with domestic violence battery, endangering a child and dissuading a witness. he is accused of grabbing and bruising his wife s arm in front of their son and then asking her not to call police. yesterday prosecutors filed a request to allow the testimony of this woman in mirkarimi s trial, christina flores his ex- girlfriend. she dated him back in 2007 and 2008 and has a similar story of abuse. prosecutors say that shows a pattern of abusive behavior. his criminal trial is set to start on february 24. this morning s hearing in family court is separate from that. again, it starts at 9 a.m. back to you guys. we ll be watching. all right, thank you, ann
happy friday, everyone. i m frank mallicoat. i m grace lee. we begin with breaking news. a capsized boat that may belong to a missing fisherman has been found. the contra costa discovered a boat in waters near pillar point a couple of hours ago, with a red stripe on the side matching the description of a missing vessel. the coast guard had been looking for 64-year-old [ non- english language ] of san ramon. he left from half moon bay on wednesday and his son alerted authorities he was missing last night. more breaking news now. the ceo of san jose-based micron has died in a small crash. the semi conductor company said steve appleton was killed when his single-engine plane went down at the boise airport this morning. he was the only one on board. it is not clear what caused this crash. he was a professional stunt plane pilot. he was 51. a major women s health organization has made an about- face on a funding decision that has drawn criticism. the susan g. komen for the

yeah. today crews will be devoted to cleaning up saint ignatius prep. anne makovec reports with the message from the principal. reporter: everybody needs to wash their hands. anybody who knows a student here at the high school, it is just spreading like wildfire. 200 students have gotten sick so far, 10% of the population. so they are going to be deep cleaning the school here behind me sanitizing everything before students return to class tomorrow. here s a look at the posting now on the school s website exploring why explaining, rather, why all classes and on- campus events are cancelled today. yesterday, 50 students called in sick. 90 had to be sent home. that was just yesterday because of this gastroenteritis. the symptoms include upset stomach, fever, diarrhea and vomiting. the department of health says it s a 24-hour virus. they are not sure where it came from. but they have ruled out cafeteria food. it s spreading now though from students to their families. some
departments in the city. anne makovec is at frank ogawa plaza with the latest. good afternoon. reporter: hello. there are new heads of both of those departments. the police department and the fire department. we ll get to that in a minute. but behind me here at oakland city hall you can see a group back there in front of the stairs, these are occupiers, people who represent the movement. and they are lodging a lot of allegations right now. they are holding a press conference saying that the oakland police department has been involved in brutality, repression and they also have a lot of criticism over a new policy of stay-away orders to keep protestors away from this very area. now, about an hour and a half ago, interim police chief howard jordan was named the city s official police chief. he is a 4-year veteran a 24- year veteran of the force, assistant chief before becoming chief. and he has seen the department go through a lot of trouble. there was the riders case b
