LA JOLLA, CA American Patrick Reed shot a 4-under-par 68 Sunday to win the $7.5 million Farmers Insurance Open by five strokes over five golfers, including San Diego State and Scripps Ranch High School graduate Xander Schauffele.
Reed and Carlos Ortiz of Mexico shared a two-stroke lead over five golfers, including Spaniard Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland of Norway, entering Sunday s final round at Torrey Pines Golf Course s South Course.
Ortiz lost his share of the lead when he bogeyed the first hole, putting his drive into a fairway bunker and second shot into the right front greenside bunker. The bogey was the first of his six for the round. He also had a double-bogey on the par-4 12th hole in a round he shot 6-over-par 78, dropping into a tie for 29th at four-under-par 284, 10 strokes off the le

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA One day after pardoning former San Diego-area Rep. Duncan Hunter, who admitted misusing campaign funds for personal use, President Donald Trump Wednesday also granted a full pardon to Hunter s estranged wife, Margaret, who pleaded guilty to the same crime and was sentenced to eight months home confinement and three years probation.
Margaret Hunter, who also served as her husband s campaign manager, pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced in August.
Trump offered much the same reasoning for pardoning Margaret Hunter as he did for pardoning the former congressman, saying the case should have been treated a civil case by the Federal Election Commission, not a federal prosecution.
