At least one local Mardi Gras event took place on Fat Tuesday 2021 when the Krewe of Tradition named its royal court with its annual costume contest.
The contest is normally conducted in person after the krewe s foot parade in downtown Houma on Mardi Gras, but this year s event was held online, with krewe members submitting photos of themselves in their costumes.
Bob Buchanan was crowned the 2021 King of Tradition, and Holly Landry will reign as the Queen of Tradition.
The krewe was founded in 2013, with the purpose of reviving the tradition of wearing costumes on Mardi Gras, even for those watching the parades. Its royal court is determined by those with the best costumes, as judged by the previous year s court.
