Geelong has scraped its way back onto the AFL winners list, holding off a gutsy North Melbourne for an unconvincing 30-point win at Kardinia Park.
In other results on Sunday, Melbourne beat Hawthorn to maintain its perfect start to the season and Fremantle get home against Adelaide.
In Geelong, the Cats overcame a sluggish start and their own poor finishing to prevail 10.17 (77) to 7.5 (47) but will sweat on the match review officer s assessment of an incident involving Mitch Duncan.
HAWTHORN 17.18 (120) defeated NORTH MELBOURNE 12.9 (81)
Key forward Jacob Koschitzke threw his name up for a round-one debut in Hawthorn’s win over North Melbourne in the Community Cup series on Saturday.
Koschitzke, the cousin of retired St Kilda star Justin, kicked six goals and three behinds while pulling in some strong marks as the Hawks controlled the majority of the game to claim a 39-point win at Arden Street Oval.

The third-year Hawks forward was drafted as a key defender but has trained as a forward during the off-season and made some smart leads into space for his marks, while his kicking action looks fundamentally sound.

A new AFL season is upon us, and with that is an opportunity for a swathe of players to put a horror 2020 season behind them.
Some of these players fell out of favour during the COVID-impacted season, while some were cut down by injuries. Let’s take a look at the host of names who are ready to make an impact in 2021.
Adelaide Crows
2020 get off to a fantastic start for dynamic Crow Wayne Milera, signing a five-year deal with the club in February. However, after featuring in his side’s opening two matches of the season (with an almost two-month gap in between games), Milera was sidelined due to a stress fracture in his foot. It would claim the rest of his campaign, so the exciting Indigenous talent will be wanting to perform strongly and repay the faith the Crows have showed in him.
