Girlsâ wrestling is a growing sport in Bedford County, the state, and the country.
In the county, there are girls from Chestnut Ridge, Northern Bedford County, Bedford, Everett and Tussey Mountain school districts who wrestle.
There are 12 schools in the state sanctioned for girls âwrestling, and they need 100 for it to be considered a sport, according Josh Deputy, head wrestling coach at Chestnut Ridge, owner of Compound Ridge in New Paris, and operator of Orchard Wrestling Club.
âFive years ago, I would have been unsure of it,â said Deputy. âNow seeing the work and effort that they all put in. These girls put in a lot of work that we donât realize. They put in as much work as the boys do.â
