El Dorado senior Sharnesia Tate wasn’t satisfied with her second place performance at last year’s state wrestling tournament. So she did something about it. Tate notched a pin fall victory over Sylvan Hills’ Kylee Laird at the 2:39 mark to claim the 5A girls state championship in the 235-pound division Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock.
It was a banner weekend for El Dorado’s girls with Maddie Aguiluz, Katelyn Hayden and Destinee Smith all earning third place medals in their respective weight classes.
As ambassadors of the sport, rodeo queens are required to know the ins and outs of each event as well as be able to handle a horse on their own inside the ring.
