Gerritsen earns MPA Award

MARS HILL, Maine Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School’s principal, Dr. Kay York, has announced the recipient of the 2021 Principal’s Award, senior Amy Gerritsen of Bridgewater.
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic excellence, outstanding school citizenship and leadership.
Throughout high school, Gerritsen has shown great dedication and determination, striving to do her best academically and in her extracurricular activities including sports, community service and working at Wood Prairie Family Farms.
On Monday, February 8 during the regular board meeting, three teachers from Ashdown Public Schools were recognized as being the 2020-2021 Teachers of the Year for their respective campuses.
Shawnda Chester was selected by her peers as Teacher of the Year (TOY) for Ashdown Elementary, Jamie Fleming for Ashdown Junior High School, and Melanie McGraw for Ashdown High School.
Shawnda Chester was selected as the Ashdown School District Teacher of the Year. After the announcement, she graciously thanked the board, administration, and her fellow TOY winners for all of their support over the years and how honored she was to be selected along with Ms. Fleming and Mrs. McGraw.
