Friends of the Selbyville Public Library donate $15K for new library

On June 8, Kay Wheatley revealed the proposed design for the new, expanded Selbyville Public Library to its Friends group. The Friends presented Library Director Kelly Kline with a check for $15,000 in support of the project. The new library will nearly triple the library’s current square footage and will be constructed adjacent to its current location. The existing historic Townsend Building, currently being used by the library, will be preserved for future use. Completion of the project is expected in mid-2024. The new library will offer expanded and flexible meeting spaces, enhanced outdoor space, state-of-the-art energy efficient features and more. New Smyrna library site selected, tax district planned

Smyrna/Clayton Sun-Times A proposal for a new library in Smyrna would provide almost four times more space for about $25 more per year to the average homeowner’s property tax bill. Advocates for the project, the Friends of the Duck Creek Regional Library, have secured a 99-year lease on town property on South Main Street that includes the parking lot at Foxwell Street and Dwight Avenue. “We needed to get that lease signed,” said Joanne Masten, the president of the Friends group. “We have a ways to go, but now we have the location.” Masten is also the Kent County Levy Court First District commissioner and former Smyrna mayor.
