Dozens of drink drivers caught out since start of year

UPDATED: More wastewater samples test positive for Covid

UPDATED 3.30PM Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour has urged residents to stay calm and follow the advice of health authorities following positive wastewater Covid test results. The Pulgul positive sample was taken on January 5. The site, which services Kawungan, Nikenbah, Scarness, Torquay, Urangan and Wondunna had returned negative samples in the weeks preceding. Maryborough, which services Aldershot, Granville, Island Plantation, Maryborough, Maryborough West, Oakhurst, St Helens and Tinana returned positive results on samples taken on December 22 and January 4. The sample taken from before Christmas was delayed in transit and a negative sample was taken on January 5. It had been negative in the weeks preceding.

POLICE BEAT: Taxi driver assault, drink driving, theft wrap

Police allege the 72-year-old driver was assaulted by a 26-year-old in Pier St about 12.40am. The man was arrested by police and will appear before the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court in January, 2021.   High range drink driving, Torquay About 10.15pm on Wednesday, December 16, police stopped a 51-year-old Torquay man driving out of his home. The man allegedly provided a positive roadside breath test and was detained. The subsequent breath analysis showed his alleged alcohol reading was more than four times the legal limit. The man will appear before the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court in January, 2021.   Anyone with information on the following offences is asked to phone Police Link on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The public voted on their favourite deli and butchers from across the region. Mr Newberry s business, Kawungan Quality Meats took out first place with 40.8% of the vote.

How you could get a free native tree from council

Premium Content Subscriber only A FREE native tree will be given to Fraser Coast residents who eradicate African tulip trees from their land. The motion was passed by the Fraser Coast Regional Council at its meeting today. “Residents only need to take a photograph of the tree before it is removed and after it is removed to be eligible for the replacement seedling,” Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said. Residents can email the photos to OpenSpace&environment@frasercoast.qld.gov.au to arrange the replacement seedling. Fraser Coast residents are also reminded that African tulip trees need to be cut into manageable pieces to be eligible for free dumping at the council’s waste facilities.
