Albany Co school leaders: Getting high schoolers vaccinated critical to herd immunity

Created: May 03, 2021 02:11 PM Albany County is laser focused on vaccinating high school students. This is a big priority to Albany County health officials and local superintendents. Right now, 41% of county residents have been fully vaccinated. Getting this younger population vaccinated is critical to building that herd immunity. As NewsChannel 13 been reporting. The county has been partnering with many schools in the area to set up vaccine clinics, including Albany County Executive Dan McCoy (center) meets with RCS Superintendent Dr. Brian Bailey, and Albany Superintendent Kaweeda Adams on Monday morning. WNYT Albany City Schools and the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk District. Both superintendents say they ve received a lot of support from parents, and that getting students vaccinated is essential to getting back to that normal classroom setting they are used to.

Officials in New York State have decided to require 3 feet distance between students as opposed to the previously adopted distance requirement of 6 feet for in-person learning.
