Another Detroit park will get a large transformation, lifting its neighborhood, as part of Mayor Mike Duggan’s Strategic Neighborhood Fund initiative.
Community leaders, residents, Duggan and project developers gathered Thursday to kick off the $3.3 million project to upgrade Clark Park in southwest Detroit and celebrate the now-complete $4.6 million renovation of The Murray formerly a long-vacant multifamily building a block away from the park, in Detroit s Hubbard Farms neighborhood.
Clark Park will be receiving a new entryway along Vernor Highway to bring people into the community in a safe and accessible way, said Katy Trudeau, deputy director of Detroit s Planning and Development Department.

A Brooklyn native with more than 25 years of planning experience has been nominated to serve as the next director of Detroit’s Planning & Development Department.
Mayor Mike Duggan announced Wednesday that he has selected Antoine Bryant to serve in the post following a nationwide search. The Detroit City Council is expected to vote on the nomination Tuesday.
Bryant previously served as business development and project manager for architecture firm Moody Nolan in Houston, where he worked on projects in historic African-American neighborhoods. The city notes that Bryan s career focus has been the development and social empowerment of underserved communities.
Mayor Mike Duggan appointed a new interim planning and development director from Texas.
Antoine Bryant, who comes from Houston, began serving as the interim director on Monday. Duggan nominated Bryant for the role, but the City Council will still have to officially confirm him to the position permanently. The move follows the departure of Maurice Cox, who left the position in 2019 for a similar role in Chicago.
