SAGINAW, MI A Saginaw teen’s gourmet popcorn company offers homemade kettle corn in a variety of unique flavors, including “Black Girl Magic.”
Kaylynn Martin, 15, is the young entrepreneur behind Kakes the Great Popcorn Co. She runs the business with help from her mother, Alesha Martin, owner of luxXBRW.
Kakes the Great offers homemade kettle corn flavored with chocolate and other sweet and salty toppings. Kaylynn Martin started out making and selling her popcorn to friends and family as a way to earn extra money last year and the business grew from there.

SAGINAW, MI Tricia Kaiser, owner of Kaiser Dress & Co. in Saginaw, had long dreamed of opening her own business.
She started out selling women’s clothing through a multi-level marketing company and hosting pop-up shops at a friend’s business on the weekends. As a stay-at-home mom of three, she liked the flexibility direct sales offered, but knew she eventually wanted to expand her business and make it her own.
“I always wanted to own my own shop,” Kaiser said, and selling women’s clothing “kind of opened my eyes to how awesome fashion is. There’s always something new, trendy, and I love that about it.”

SAGINAW, MI - For the last 25 years, Katy’s Kards has called Saginaw home. With new owners as of last summer, the party store continues to expand.
Ce’Erica Allen, her husband, DeVario Allen, and her mother, Christy Ferguson, are the new owners of the business located at 1200 Court St.
They offer party balloons in hundreds of styles, greeting cards, decorations, customized items and are now offering party planning services, online ordering, contactless pickup, delivery and more.
“We are expanding into rentals and delivery as well as custom orders, like you come in with an idea and we kind of put together different elements,” Ce’Erica Allen said. “We’re really trying to create like a complete party experience.”

SAGINAW, MI A longtime party supply store in Saginaw has new owners and new offerings.
Ce’Erica Allen, her husband, DeVario Allen, and her mother, Christy Ferguson, are the new owners of Katy’s Kards, 1200 Court St. The shop, known best for its selection of greeting cards and party balloons in hundreds of styles, has been in business for about 25 years. Ce’Erica Allen described it as a “staple of the community.”
The new owners took over the business last summer and have gradually introduced new product offerings and services. Katy’s Kards continues to offer party supplies and balloon arrangements, plus party planning services, online ordering, contactless pickup, delivery and more.
