Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) started cleaning Katora Houz by using GCBs. The centuries-old pond is located at Golconda.
The Principal Secretary Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Arvind Kumar informed the cleaning of the 16th century historic Katora House situated at a distance of 1 km from Golconda Fort through his tweet which says, “Katora Houz cleaning begins.. Floating trash collection (FTC) wasn’t possible because of lack of depth and we are doing it with JCBs.”

The Katora Houz lake inside Golconda Fort has been turned into one of the largest trash bins in the city by residents of surrounding areas. Months after the wall of the 500-year-old artificial lake collapsed during incessant rain in mid-October last year, the lake is littered with garbage. The trash being dumped ranges from household trash generated every day to discarded sofa sets, stryofoam from the innards of refrigerators to building debris. “People drive their two wheelers and throw the plastic bags and drive away,” says a resident waiting outside the masjid.
Activists fume as GHMC neglects restoration of historic Katora Houz

Hyderabad: Heritage lovers and activists were up in arms against the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as the civic body continues to delay the restoration process of the 450-year-old wall of the Katora Houz at Golconda Fort.
The old retaining boundary wall of Katora Houz, the magnificent tank of the ancient Golconda Qila (fort) here, collapsed in the heavy rains that caused floods in October. Heritage activists allege that the tardy maintenance has resulted in the collapsed wall of Katora Houz.
Worried residents of Golconda Qila have called upon the Archeological Survey India (ASI) and the state government, the activists’ groups and residents urging the ASI to renovate the tank.
