Venice man faces weapons, drug charges

EDWARDSVILLE A Venice man was charged with felony weapon and drug violations Friday.
Frank E. Brown, 24, of Venice, was charged May 14 with unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, both Class 3 felonies.
The case was presented by the Venice Police Department.
According to court documents, on May 13 Brown allegedly was found to be in possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis with intent to deliver, and a Taurus 9 mm handgun.
Brown has a prior conviction for possession with intent to deliver out of Madison County in 2019, making him ineligible to possess weapons.
Godfrey man accused of battering nurse, cops

EDWARDSVILLE A Godfrey man was charged with multiple counts of battery to police and a nurse after a Dec. 19 incident.
John D. Shimchick, 46, was charged Dec. 21 with two counts of aggravated battery/peace officer, both Class 2 felonies; aggravated battery/nurse, a Class 3 felony; and aggravated assault/peace officer, a Class 4 felony. The case was presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
According to court documents, on Dec. 19 Shimchick threw a rock at a sheriff’s deputy and kicked and threw a number of objects, including a hammer and wooden table, at another deputy. While at Alton Memorial Hospital, he allegedly spit on a nurse.
