A jury in Missouri awarded transgender student, RJ Appleberry, $4 million in damages on December 13, after a school district refused to let him use male washrooms and locker rooms.
Graffiti messages referred to an act of violence that would occur last Friday at Blue Springs South High School, and at least one message included an image of a gun. About 75 percent of the students at the school stayed home that day.
Blue Springs South Principal Ryan Gettings said in messages Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon to school families that additional public safety officers would be at the school through the coming days as a precaution.
Fort Osage Schools sent a message to families over the weekend with updated back-to-school plans saying masks would be required. If the county order expires, the district will make a mask decision at that point, Superintendent Jason Snodgrass said.
