MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) - The Berkeley County School District is one step closer to naming a new superintendent.
The school’s board of trustees voted Tuesday to narrow its search to three candidates. All three are internal candidates, according to district.

MONKS CORNER S.C. (WCSC) - Multiple community activists came together to condemn a photograph raising concerns on social media which allegedly shows what appears to be Berkeley County students re-enacting the death of George Floyd.
Justin Hunt with the group Stand as One said they are calling on the Berkeley County School District to publicly respond to community concerns surrounding the photo and punish anyone potentially involved.

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) - The Berkeley County School District confirmed Tuesday it is aware of a photograph raising concerns on social media.
Berkeley County School District spokesperson Katie Tanner responded to a request for comment about reports of a TikTok video purportedly featuring Berkeley County students re-enacting the death of George Floyd.
“The District is aware of the photograph, is investigating, and will act in accordance with District policy,” Tanner said in a statement. “Under federal and state law, the District cannot offer comment on student matters.”

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) - The Berkeley County School District says one of its middle schools was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning.
District spokesperson Katie Tanner said Berkeley Middle School went on lockdown while school administration investigated “a statement overheard by another individual that caused concern.”
“After a full investigation, it was determined that it was safe to lift the lockdown and resume normal schedules,” Tanner said.
Students have since resumed their normal schedules.
An earlier statement from the district said the students were safe.
District officials did not provide further details on the nature of the statement that prompted the brief lockdown.
