COVID vaccine: Help available for Wayne, Ashland seniors with online registration

Health departments and community organizations are combing efforts to make sure residents over 65 years old who want the COVID-19 vaccine get registered. Ashland and Wayne counties have online registries that may prove difficult to navigate for individuals who do not have a computer or internet access in their homes. Holmes County’s registry is by phone only at this time. The local health departments did not report any major issues in senior citizens having difficulties signing up. The Phase 1B registry list in Wayne County surpassed 15,000 people last week and more than 14,000 people had registered in Ashland County, although representatives for each health department reported some people registered more than once.

United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties makes goal despite pandemic

WOOSTER Generous donations by community members helped United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties surpass its 2020 campaign goal of $1.5 million. The nonprofit organization used nearly every platform imaginable to reach out to the community to make its fundraising goal this year. Individual contributions increased this year while funds from workplace campaigns decreased yet still made up a majority of the fundraising. “We didn’t back down to the pandemic. We didn’t let that dissuade us from fundraising,” said Katie Koglman, executive director of the local United Way chapter. “People stepped up to the plate. They gave back with their whole heart to help people in this community.”
