Aspen Mountain will be closed to uphill travel through April 26 due to events and snowcat work on the hill, according to an email update from Katie Ertl, senior vice president of mountain operations at Aspen Skiing Co.
The closure applies at all times; no after-hours uphilling is permitted. It will reopen to uphill travel April 27, but staff will be clearing roads at the top of the mountain for construction that may impact traffic and skiability in some areas.
Aspen Highlands has reopened to uphill travel after a closure for U.S. Alpine Championships. Buttermilk is losing snow but is likewise open to uphillers. Lifts have closed for the season at both resorts.

Postseason maintenance on the Silver Queen Gondola at Aspen Mountain will push the gondola’s summer opening date to early July, according to Katie Ertl, Aspen Skiing Co. Senior Vice President of Mountain Operations.
Skico is replacing the haul rope (the cable that carries gondola cabs to the top of the mountain), Ertl announced at a Snowmass “Tourism Talks” webinar Wednesday morning; the Aspen Mountain Club will also close for the duration of the summer season for renovations, Ertl said.
The gondola project will likely begin with a few days of teardown shortly after Aspen Mountain’s April 18 closing date, Ertl said in a phone call Wednesday afternoon. (Skico has not yet decided when or whether it will offer an end-of-season employee ski day after the lifts close to the public, according to Ertl.)

A trio of local women are acquiring Aspen CrossFit from owner Erik Larson, who started the fitness business in 2010.
Katie Ertl and her sister, Megan Harvey Bourke, along with Jessica Moore, will take over the business March 1. They’ve all been members of the gym and the CrossFit community for several years.
Ertl said she had caught wind through the rumor mill last summer that Larson was thinking about selling so she asked him about it. It turned out not to be true but it started a conversation that was acted on about a month ago when word in the gym was that Larson was considering a move.
