everyone. i am ayman mohyeldin in for stephanie ruhle. there was an unexpected twist today, the january six committee switching up its playbook, suddenly adding a new surprise hearing for tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm eastern. so, the public can hear from a secret witness. just last week, the panel said remaining public hearings would actually be pushed into july. but late this afternoon, the committee said this new hearing will focus on quote, recently obtained evidence and received witness testimony. who and what we ll hear tomorrow, remains a mystery at this hour. but the short notice of this unexpected hearing has speculation running wild. we also learned today the justice department has been focusing on john eastman. he is, of course, the trump allied lawyer who has become a central figure in the january six committee s investigation. in a court filing, eastman says that a federal agent executed a search warrant, and seized his iphone in new mexico last week. witness testim
understand about january 6th and the conspiracy, the plan to carry out a coup. the hearing centered around the explosive testimony of a single witness, 25-year-old cassidy hutchinson. she s a trump white house aide who did what so many of her colleagues and her bosses, including her direct boss, chief of staff mark meadow have so far refused to do. she told the truth. she cooperated with the panel having sat for four taped interviews before today s testimony. this afternoon in public she made it clear that the brutal unsparing violence that took place at the united states capitol was not just something unexpected, something that got out of hand, as many in the republican party would want you to believe. it was part of a planned, premeditated coup attempt. hutchinson testified that the white house was fully aware that january 6th could turn violent before that day. they let it happen anyway. chief of staff mark meadows was told on the morning of the 6th that the attendees for
tonight, protesters are out in the streets across the country, after the unprecedented supreme court decision, ending roe v. wade. 50 years after it became law. demonstrations have been growing ever since the ruling was announced this morning. five of the courts conservatives voted to overturn roe. samuel alito who is a draft opinion was leaked last month, wrote in his final decision that roe was egregiously wrong from the start. the ruling automatically clears the way for abortion bans in 13 states. at least six states have already put them into effect. and there are concerns about what this may mean for court decisions on contraception, and gay rights. justice clarence thomas says those should be up for review as well. we ve got a lot to cover tonight, but i want to begin with my friend and colleague, morrow barrick, our nbc news reporter. she s on the ground, at the supreme court, all day long. morrow, you have been among the protesters for hours. what are they telling you
in reproductive rights in america, despite the majority of americans supporting abortion rights with a combined 60% of americans saying that it should be legal always or most of the time according to an nbc most recent question poll. the population this country is not being told that their bodily autonomy is no longer being protected by the federal. government it is not a small thing. this is women and many trans men and nonbinary folks to, being told that they can now be subjected to force childbirth by the state. if you can get pregnant, you cannot be forced by the state to carry the pregnancy to term, or, let s say you want to become pregnant and you have a miscarriage, as many as 26% of all pregnancies and in miscarriage, according to the college of obstetricians missed. in the post roe world, world, they can be viewed as a crime. the supreme court is not doing anything this radical. they are simply returning to the question of its fortune back to the states. let s look a
closing up shop here for the night. but as for the first couple of hours, we saw that initial protest from those who are opposed to abortion rights, who were elated, and celebrating, and happy. and after a few hours, they left. the streets were filled with hundreds and thousands of people who were the ones that were hoping that maybe we would see a compromise. they were maybe hoping that it away, we re expecting to see this decision come down, it s not what they got today. we saw tears of joy and despair. we had very emotional heavy conversations. and we will hear some of those conversations, stephanie. a lot of things have been going through my mind, anger, deep sadness, and a desire to turn this around the. this is going through my mind. it s a rollercoaster emotion! it s completely utter joy that roe is overturned. women are going to die between now and when we get legislation passed, which is untenable. we heard a lot of concern around that last statement you hear
