Residents of Norwich and the surrounding area are being encouraged to make a joyful noise this Christmas Eve as part of the Worldwide Christmas Jingle 2020. Kevin Harkins, president of Friends of Norwich Bells, said the event is aimed at sharing a sense of love, hope and unity in these trying pandemic times.
The plan is to have everyone across the globe at 6 p.m. Thursday step outside and ring a bell for about a minute or two, to note the holiday season in what has been an especially challenging year. Harkins said the idea originated in the United Kingdom about two months ago, when Scottish resident Kathyrn Stubbs heard that parents were telling their children that Santa wasn t coming this year due to the pandemic.
