Members of the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Thursday to allow transitional housing at some rural church properties; there were no speakers at the public hearing except for a representative of one of the organizations that requested the change to the zoning law. Last month, planning commissioners voted unanimously to recommend approval of the zoning ordinance amendment.
The ordinance amendment allows âtransitional family housingâ at places of worship located at least 12 acres in areas zoned ârural â agricultural.â Religious organizations still need to obtain a special exception permit â a process that includes both the planning commission and the board of supervisors to establish transitional housing on their properties.
