Lions Club donates blankets to children in need Community Content Lions Club members of Southeastern Massachusetts, District 33-S, in the region from Abington through the Attleboros, Cape Cod and the Islands, made fleece throws to distribute to children who are battling cancer in honor of Lions Clubs International Childhood Cancer Awareness program. Lions’ district governor Sandy Fife and past district governor Kathy Salem have spearheaded the project that began in January and concludes in March. The original goal to make and distribute 20 blankets turned into a district-wide effort to make and distribute over 640 blankets. A group of 12 Lions gathered to individually bag the blankets and package them for distribution Feb. 27. Because of a donation from Pet Smart of stuffed animals and another donation of Beanie Babies, many of the blankets will also include a stuffed animal or Beanie Baby for the child to enjoy.
