SOMERSET Three days after Somerset held its town elections, selectman Holly McNamara resigned her post, opening the possibility of a future special election.
Somerset Town Clerk Dolores Bence confirms that the current selectmen must call an election to fill McNamara’s seat, according to Mass. General Laws. The selectmen will also have to consider the deadlines set forth in said laws, specifically regarding deadlines for nomination papers, the certification process through the Board of Registrars, as well as time for Bence to have election ballots printed.
While Bence has yet to speak to selectmen Allen Smith and Lorne Lawless, she anticipates that the special election is “a couple of months away.”
