Distiller hopes to call Venice home, debut with Shark Tooth Vodka

VENICE – Early this COVID-19 pandemic summer John Dale and his wife Beata were sitting around with their friends Monika Piwowarska and her husband Roy Cook, talking about what they like about Venice. The Dales moved here from Murrieta, California, which is inland midway between San Diego and Los Angeles, and became friendly with Piwowarska – the Realtor who found their house – and her husband partly because both women are Polish and both men are roughly the same age. One thing led to another and the idea of developing Shark Tooth Vodka came to light. Two months later, the thoughts became a little more serious and Dale started calling distilleries, to see how likely that idea could become a reality.

Venice Chamber positivity walls come down, messages to inspire artwork

VENICE – Tuesday, after a successful 12-week run at five locations in south Sarasota County, the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce removed the Positivity Walls, where people could post messages of hope and encouragement. The wall at Centennial Park on the island of Venice was by far the busiest location, noted Venice Area Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Kathy Lehner. The 4-foot by 8-foot lattice walls were installed Sept. 21 at Centennial Park, the Venice Beach Pavillion on the island of Venice; the Sandra Sims Terry Community Center in Laurel; the SKY Family YMCA on Center Road; and the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library in South Venice.
