Solano Family and Children’s Services helps families with child care
FAIRFIELD Solano Family and Children’s Services has provided child care resources to families and child care providers since 1978, when the nonprofit was established due to the need for a local resource to support working parents.
“People didn’t realize until this pandemic just how important child care is to families and businesses,” said Kathy Lago, executive director.
Solano Family and Children’s Services has grown over the past 43 years from just a few staff members to an agency of 57 employees who help families with their search for child care, parenting support and financial assistance with the cost of child care while reimbursing the small business child care providers who care for the children in the community.

This takes the contribution to the county by the tribe to $3.75 million over four years.
“All of these are related to the tribe itself,” Supervisor Erin Hannigan said, noting the health and social service needs of Native Americans in the communities.

“This money is going directly to help people,” Spering said.
The latest funding, which is for the 2021 calendar year, dedicates $200,000 to help families with basic needs and services and $300,000 to pay for half the operational costs at the First 5 Center in Vallejo.
It will support, with $200,000, the Mobile Food Pharmacy and Food Rx program, which provides nutrition needs through the Solano clinics, and $30,000 to VibeSolano, which will use the money for its early learning center and its senior fall prevention program.
