A virtual benefit luncheon will be held by the local organization Presbyterian Children s Homes and Services (PCHAS) on May 5, with more than 800 people invited.
PCHAS manages voluntary adoptions, foster care placements, an early-intervention program to help families in crisis, and a program for youth aging out of foster care in North Texas, including Waxahachie.
This will be the second year PCHAS will hold a virtual luncheon. They made the decision two months ago to make this year’s event virtual to protect the elderly and youth who attend.
Kathy Dodson, a Senior Development Officer, is in charge and manages the Fort Worth and Northwest Texas for PCHAS.
Carlsbad
As a political science student in college, Scott Chadwick wanted to be an elected official. Instead, he ended up working for five of them.
Chadwick, 46, became Carlsbad’s new city manager Aug. 1, where as the city’s top administrator his direct supervisors are the members of the City Council.
“I take my cues from the council as a whole,” he said. His job is to implement the council’s policies and stay as far out of politics as possible.
Most of Chadwick’s career has been with the city of San Diego, where he was chief operating officer from 2013 to 1018. His efforts there were praised by the California League of Cities and others for improving service, increasing transparency and boosting community engagement

Presbyterian Children s Homes and Services (PCHAS) is distributing gifts to children in the foster care system, from churches in Ellis County and surrounding areas.
Founded by a church in 1903, PCHAS has had support from many churches ever since its beginning. That is always a choice of each church; we are not guaranteed financial support or in-kind support from them. We also get funded by individuals, foundations and other sources, shared Noreen O Brien, Manager of Communication and Government Contracts at PCHAS.
In Waxahachie, 40 children are in the Single Parent Family program, according to O Brien. The program helps low-income families who are getting back on their feet and living on the PCHAS campus for about a year. The program s intention is to keep families together while the single parent becomes more self-sufficient.
