Question
My 16-year-old is looking to invest in a laptop. He is currently in fifth year, but hoping to go on to college eventually. He is currently off school, but doing some stuff online. I know you mentioned the MacBook in an article you published back in mid-December. Do you have any advice on what I should get that will last the next five years? I’m flexible in my budget, to a point. John Forde
Answer
A MacBook Air (€1,110) will certainly last five years, although you need to make sure that it’s one of the newer ‘M1’ models and not an Intel model. The ‘M1’ model is far more powerful, has far better battery life and is generally more future-proofed. I’d only consider one of the Intel models if you see them on sale with 15pc (or more) off they are currently around the same price.
