Pieter’s Corner: sense of conspiracy theorists
Climate change is made up, the secret services murdered Pim Fortuyn and JFK, and the moon landing was a fake show. Conspiracy theories are of all times, providing sensation and entertainment, but also unrest and fear. The corona pandemic is new fuel for conspiracy theorists who set fire to 5G masts, accuse the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) of lies, and undermine vaccination programmes. Are these far-fetched theories to be taken serious? Are they harmful or useful for society? Our social scientists give their point of view:

A new post has been set up to help community landowners in the Outer Hebrides coordinate their recovery from the Covid pandemic.
Community Land Outer Hebrides (CLOH) had advertised for a development manager to develop opportunities in the area where more than 75% of the population now live on community-owned land.
CLOH was established as a formal consortium of community land trusts in January after sharing best practice and knowledge for long-term sustainability in a series of network meetings since 2016. It includes long-running social enterprises, newly-formed land trusts and groups at the pre-purchase stage.
TYNEDALE S three major towns have all revealed their Christmas Lights display - but which one is best? Christmas this year isn t what we expected, but that hasn t stopped towns and villages across the Tyne Valley from pulling out all the stops. To find out, we asked Hexham Courant readers which display was their favourite. Here s what they said. Most people seemed to favour Haltwhistle s display. Shelly Newton said: Haltwhistle is amazing and the shop displays are brilliant. Tracy Irwin added: Definitely Haltwhistle. Fantastic display again this year. They seem to get better each year.
