The last time we spoke with Gabriella, she had just spent an intense hour-long session with UFVâs counsellors, breaking down her memories.
So, during her session this week, the counsellor checked in with Gabriella, making sure that she was doing okay after having such an emotional last session. The counsellor also asked Gabriella to consider how the memory felt to her now a week later.
For Gabriella, it was the counsellorâs dedication to âself-discovery,â rather than imposing her own interpretation of the memory, that was appreciated and reflected on the most.
âShe didnât sit there and tell me, âthis is why you are this way.â Itâs all very self-discovery [based],â explains Gabriella. âThroughout all these sessions, obviously [the counsellor] is guiding, but itâs not anything where [theyâre] like, âthis is why you feel this wayâ with the stereotypical clipboard.â

This past Friday, the Student Union Society (SUS) held another scheduled board meeting at UFV’s Abbotsford campus.
Governance committee electoral policy motion tabled again
Changes to the electoral policy, proposed by VP internal Greg Stickland and the governance committee, were tabled by the board at their last meeting two weeks ago.
Stickland explained the governance committee has since worked to address the policy issues the board brought up.
“I received some feedback after last meeting, and even more between board meetings to the policy,” he explains. “All the things were accommodated for.”
However, during the board’s discussion, representative-at-large Jay Mitchell expressed concern regarding the policy’s by-election definition. Challenging the policy’s inability to fully address every possible by-election situation, Mitchell explained his worries to the board.

After a week-long hiatus from her memory exercise, Gabriella returned to UFVâs counsellors ready and excited to decode her memory list. Although postponing her memory session for a week due to overwhelming stress, Gabriella came to the session with a renewed relaxation and open mindset.
Firmly establishing her relaxed state, through breathing exercises and relaxation techniques, before the session even began, Gabriella was encouraged to close her eyes, in order to ready herself for an intense session of visualization.
âI closed my eyes and my eyes were pretty much closed the whole rest of the session,â says Gabriella. âThere was a lot of visualization. With the past and things that are internal closing your eyes eliminates that outside world for you.â
