doors open today thanks to a last-minute assist from a private school. the academy was set to be closed because of financial constraints. a detroit-based private academy will convert katherine ferguson into a charter school and assume managerial duties. i m joined by asenith andrews, principal. there was a rally yesterday to protest the closing of the school and the private academy steps in to help out. it sounds like there obviously is huge relief here. i cannot tell you how relieved. i had to unpacked my office because it was packed to be closed. that s a joy. it s not a hassle. i m so happy to have an opportunity to unpack. some members of the detroit board of education say it s only a half victory. they actually wanted to keep the academy in the public schools system.
